Great skin is an inside job: a convo with Tammi Cox

May 18, 2018

My name is Tammi and I have been an Esthetician here at The Still Point for almost three years now! I graduated from Paul Mitchell back in 2014 and began my career shortly after.

Working in such a healing environment has really shaped me into the person I am today. Exploring different methods of treatment offered within The Still Point, as well as other healing modalities, has enabled me to become my BEST self!

By taking time to heal myself on a mental, physical, and spiritual level, I am able to give it right back to my clients!

This has been my biggest take away from being part of The Still Point: “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” With this knowledge, I am able to spread that message onto those I see in treatment!

Q: What is Esthetics and why did you choose a career in this field?
I chose a career in this field because I have always been intrigued by skin! This is because skin is such a BIG deal – literally. It’s the largest organ in the body and one of the most complicated. It is our vessel throughout our lifetime and has many roles in the maintenance of life and health.

Not only does the skin hold everything in, but it also plays a crucial role in providing a barrier between the outside world and the highly regulated systems within the body.

Being an Esthetician, I am able to HELP others heal their skin and provide them with the tools and knowledge to CARE for such a big part of their body.

Q: What’s your approach to treatment?
During facials, I conduct pre and post treatment consultations for my clients, advising how best to care for their specific skin type and recommendations on specialized skin care products targeted towards their needs and goals.

For every client I see, I ensure the most relaxing and rejuvenating experience possible while also doing my best to deliver a results-oriented treatment that will leave their skin refreshed and glowin’. ?

Overall, my goal is helping clients look and feel beautiful!

Q: What kind of skincare concerns do you typically treat?
I have a wide range of clients that I typically treat, ranging from acneic clients to anti-aging seekers, and even those who just want a little skin pick-me-up with tons of relaxation.

My favorite type of skin to treat and heal would probably be those suffering from inflammatory (particularly hormonal or cystic) acne. This type of acne is almost always painful to the touch and can cause great discomfort. Inflammatory acne takes much longer to heal, it can cause severe scarring, and have permanent effects on the skin.

It’s important to determine the best treatment methods for your skin condition to prevent damage, so I enjoy providing relief to those dealing with an uncomfortable situation.

Q: What’s your favorite skincare product?
I love all of the products offered here at TSP, because they are all natural and we don’t test on animals. But I’d have to say my favorite product is our Resurfacing Enzyme Scrub. Exfoliation, in my opinion, is one of the top products everyone should have! It can prevent a lot of skin conditions ranging from premature aging to acne.

This Resurfacing Enzyme Scrub has a mix of berries, which provide tons of antioxidants to the skin, and the grit you feel within this product are bamboo fibers (which are 100% biodegradable). Overall, this product will help with your tone and texture, reduce inflammation, and detox the skin.

The best way to use this product? Scrub for a minute or two and then let it sit for about five to ten minutes. It’s an enzyme, meaning it sits and eats away at the dead or old skin, and speeds up the process for new healthy skin to form. Super easy and efficient!

Q: Any mantras about healthy skin you’d like to share?
Your skin is a direct reflection of what is going on inside your body. The saying is true.. “We ARE what we eat!” So the key to flawless skin goes beyond what you put on your skin. The focus should be directed inward to what you supply your body with in the first place. If you focus on your overall health, your skin health will improve.
