Wellness, balance, healing…..all popular buzz words that sound enticing and are easy get started with the latest craze, but how do we really achieve amidst the reality of our fast-paced world? Here we’ll bring you insight into how find wellbeing and peace for body, mind, and spirit.
Hi, my name is Kelley McCaleb and I’ve been a massage therapist for 19 years. I love hiking and the outdoors, and so glad to be with The Still Point in Takoma Park.
Why did you choose a career in massage therapy?
My father taught me the benefits of massage and chiropractic care when I was a kid and it made a real difference with my asthma without using pharmaceuticals.
I ended up graduating from the New England Academy of Therapeutic Sciences. In the first seven years of my career, I worked with a holistic chiropractor and developed a passion for the medical side of massage, addressing specific issues.
What’s your approach to treatment?
Everyone has a custom-made body and individual needs. I like to take all my knowledge and use what will be most beneficial to my client.
In my practice, I incorporate Swedish massage, deep tissue, pre-natal, foot reflexology, and sports massage. Massage therapists and the people we treat are both like snowflakes–no two are alike!
What kind of issues do you see in your treatment room?
Most people see me for specific issues. I enjoy medical massage so I’m always learning how to treat…rotator cuff, TMJ, low back, sciatic and sacroiliac issues.
What aspect of your healing work do you incorporate in your daily life?
I am always using rubber massage balls called T-Spheres during my practice every day. They’re good for releasing tension and I use them on myself too! Check out this video of me talking about these great self-massage tools.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Massage therapy is useful for more than just muscle therapy. It helps anxiety, allergies, healthy pre-natal and postpartum depression.
