These days, hopping into the sauna on a chilly day is one of the easiest forms of self-care I can give my body. All I have to do is sit. That’s it! Just sit in the sauna (which is kept at a cozy 140 degrees) for 20 or 40 minutes. The penetrating infrared light is doing all the work!
I’d like to be the person who always gets to the gym 3 times a week, but most of the time that’s not my reality. The sauna helps me to sweat and connect to my body, much like a workout might. During these cold months, I’m constantly bundled up in layers of clothing and doing everything to prevent my skin from being too exposed to the cold. In the sauna my skin can breathe and release – and it feels much better for it! An added bonus…evidence that infrared saunas, because of their ability to penetrate the skin more deeply, increase metabolic rate and can help the body burn off anywhere from 200 to 600 calories in a half-hour session (!).
I’ve been doing a cleanse the past few weeks, and doing back to back sauna sessions has really helped with the detoxing process. The sauna paired with a shift in diet has helped me to feel lighter, fit my clothes a bit better, and it’s been very balancing overall.
But the benefits of using the sauna regularly go way beyond the physical. Consider the ways it may help your mental/emotional wellness. Most recently, the Sauna has provided me a space where I can have peace, quiet, and much needed “me-time”. I can meditate, journal, talk to myself, or just enjoy the spa music. It’s a mini retreat from daily life.
Tips For Your First Visit
Before or after service? It really doesn’t matter…enjoying infrared radiation before any service, especially massage, means you’ll arrive at the table more relaxed. Your muscles will be warm and in prime condition for deeper stretching and tension relief. If you choose to follow your massage with heat therapy in your sauna, you’ll enjoy the detoxifying benefits as your sweat and circulation whisks accumulated toxins and waste out of your system.
