Understanding the Power of Essential Oils

Understanding the Power of Essential Oils

At The Still Point, we take pride in offering a wide range of therapeutic massage services along with various enhancements that add to the healing benefits of touch. From Himalayan salt stones to dry brushing, we have a number of options of targeted treatments that feel good and also have specific therapeutic value. Here’s a deep dive into one of our most popular enhancements, our Essential Oil Tonics.

Backed by Knowledge and Experience

Essential Oils Tonics was the first enhancement we offered after our entire team was trained by a clinical aromatherapist from Bastyr University in 2010. We learned the science behind essential oils and how to expertly blend them therapeutically. Our three original blends have remained unchanged for 15 years! Essential oils do more than smell good—they’re profoundly beneficial and a perfect complement to your massage, offering powerful benefits.

Power of Plants

The term “essential oil” comes from the Latin “quinta essentia,” meaning the fifth element. This represents the spirit or life force, harmonizing with fire, air, earth, and water. Extracting essential oil has been in practice for millennia, and believed to capture a plant’s spirit for healing. These oils carry the plant’s vibrational energy, influencing both body and mind on a subtle and profound level. Studies show essential oils possess various properties, including antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiviral, and more.

Our Signature Blends

We thoughtfully created these based on the individual essential oil’s therapeutic purpose. Each blend is crafted for specific needs, and although there are many more blends we could craft, these four have been tried-and-true and have proven to be effective and a perfect complement to massage treatments:

Detox: Choose this when you haven’t taken the best care of your body—poor sleep, diet, or movement.

  • Geranium balances hormones, improves lymphatic drainage, and reduces bloating and water retention.
  • Pink Grapefruit, rich in antioxidants, purifies the lymphatic system and supports weight loss.
  • Juniper aids kidney and liver function, reducing inflammation and fluid buildup.
  • Cypress boosts circulation and detoxification, clearing stagnant energy and promoting toxin removal.

Mend: For sore, tight muscles, our Mend Blend perfectly complements a massage.

  • Rosemary boosts circulation, relieves muscle tension, and reduces joint pain.
  • Ravintsara eases body aches and respiratory discomfort with its anti-inflammatory properties
  • Geranium helps with nerve pain, inflammation, and relaxation, aiding conditions like sciatica and cramps.
  • Basil relaxes muscles, easing headaches and pain.
  • Peppermint’s menthol cools and soothes sore muscles and tension.
  • Eucalyptus reduces inflammation, clears congestion, and relieves muscle and joint pain.

Restore: Find balance, uplift your spirit, and rejuvenate body and mind with Restore.

  • Bergamot reduces stress while boosting mood and clarity.
  • Lavender promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, and aids sleep.
  • Geranium restores emotional balance, balances hormones, and refreshes skin.
  • Ylang-Ylang relaxes and revitalizes, reducing anxiety and boosting sensual energy.

Ground: Feeling uneasy or stressed? Ground Blend soothes the mind, uplifts the spirit, and brings warmth and balance.

  • Sweet Orange promotes positivity, reduces stress, and offers comfort.
  • Mandarin soothes tension, encourages relaxation, and supports sleep.
  • Rosemary balances emotions and eases nervous tension.
  • Cedarwood fosters emotional security, reduces anxiety, and boosts inner strength.

It may be hard to choose one tonic, so your massage therapist can identify the best blend to meet your needs. You can’t go wrong with any of our blends!

More tips to get the most out of your massage:

  • Talk to your therapist about any concerns, pain, or questions you have upfront
  • If it’s your first massage and you feel nervous, tell your therapist! They will take extra care to guide you through the service for the first time.
  • Arrive ten minutes early. We will help you reset once you get into the treatment room, but we find that being settled with your spa slippers on before your appointment time creates the best experience.
  • Fill out your intake form. This helps your therapist ask you the right questions so they can plan out your custom massage.

Our tips for after your massage:

  • Drink water! During the massage, your body experiences lymphatic drainage, a lot of healing, and pressure in ways it isn’t used to. Water helps cleanse any toxins that are ready to leave.
  • Expect massage brain. As we said, a massage at The Still Point is a reset for the body and the mind. This means your mind might be super relaxed after your service. If you have an important date or job interview, we recommend giving yourself an hour or two to unwind after your massage
